Chapter 7 pg 229 Scenarios 1 and 5.

Scenario 1
1.1) Ms. Eltona's students need to learn to not plagiarize. One must site every bit of information one finds that is not in their own words
1.2) Ms. Eltona could teach her students how to do a work cited page for what information they find. As well as, teaching them good sites to find the information at, narrowing down the important facts and putting it into your own words.
1.3) Ms. Eltona should make it clear and concise in her rubric that it will be a automatic F is she caughts anyone plagiarizing. Also, she should make the students use one book source to get them to read and not goof off and, limit the sites that they can use if they are not responsible enough to look on the Internet freely.

Scenario 5
5.1) I would recommend my students to use Bookkmarks file which keeps track of all the sites you visit.
5.2) The advantages of using Bookmarks file is that is is much faster and easier than writing it down or copying and pasteing the URLs. It just automatically does it for you.
5.3) You could assign your students to keep track of all the URLs they visit which would make it manditory to use Bookmarks file.

Google Earth

If I were teaching a foreign language class I think it would be a good idea for all the students in my class to download google earth at home or use resources at school. Then, I would assign all my students to browse around on Google Earth, look up France, and check out some up the towns and street signs when it is on street view. Then I would have every student pick one town in France that they really liked and have them research it and try to find pictures of where they would want to eat, shop, site see and ext. Then I would have them all make a PowerPoint and show the class a presentation.

11/4/10 Assignment

Google Maps is a extremely useful part of google. Google maps will show you directions to any place in the world. You can zoom in as far to see the street names and you can zoom out as far as, to see the whole world. It's great for traveling or planning trips. It will also tell you an estimated time of how long it will take to get there. Google maps would be useful in the classroom, expecially for a geography class. Students can study countrys, states, countys, and even roads. It is great for students to learn there way around there hometown.
I also think it would be a cool project to have the students study google map and have them draw a route of a place they would like to travel. They would also have to figure out how long it would take to get there and what they need to take with them to be prepard.

What is hypermedia and multimedia? What are the differences and similarities between the two? What are some examples of each of these tools and programs? Give one example of how you could use each in a classroom? What is Web 2.0 and what are some Web 2.0 authoring tools? Feel free to use the net to help find your answers. I feel that this chapter is very relevant so please read it and be comfortable with it.
1. Hypermedia refers to "linked media" or "interactive media." Hypermedia is an extension to hypertext that supports linking graphics, sound, and video elements in addition to text elements. The World Wide Web is a partial hypermedia system since is supports graphical hyperlinks and links to sound and video files. New hypermedia systems under development will allow objects in computer videos to be hyperlinked.
Multimedia means "multiple media" or a "combination of media." The use of computers to present text, graphics, video, animation, and sound in an integrated way. Long touted as the future revolution in computing, multimedia applications were, until the mid-90s, uncommon due to the expensive hardware required.
2. For the Hypermedia you could use a powerpoint and put links in it for the students to choose the right answer. For Mulitmedia you could just put in a dvd.

3. Web 2.0 is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site gives its users the free choice to interact or collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumer) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumer) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them.

4. Authorizing tools of Web 2.0 include social-networking sites, blogs, wikis, video-sharing sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies.

Scenarios 1-4 on pg. 131

Scenario 1

1.1 ) A Spreadsheet would be the best for Mr. Gilbert to use.
1.2 ) The advantage for using a spreadsheet would be that the students would get done much faster because they wouldnt have to keep correcting errors and entering figures.
1.3 ) If I were doing the same project I would have the students work together because they can help each other, get the project done faster, and help each other understand.

Scenario 2

2.1 ) The students have many advantages when they use word processing. It helps students make corrections more efficiently, which motivates them to more and take more interest in there school work.
2.2 ) It is an advantage for the students to post the completed story on the internet because, all the students will be able to go back and see what they completed and it will make them feel good about themselves because they can say they had a part in that story. They will also be able to show there loved one.
2.3 ) If I was Mr. Hern I would have all the students make there own ending to the story so they can see how many was you can go with a story and it will help them with there writing and brainstorming.

Scenario 3

3.1 ) It did not provide the benefit she expected because word processing does not caught every spelling mistake and doesn't really help when it comes to grammer.
3.2 ) I think the students papers weren't as well developed as they usually are because they were focasing so much on the spelling and grammer. Also, all the students were together working in the lab. If they students worked by themselves they would probably get more done.
3.3 ) If she tries this again I would suggest she have her students do more out side of school and, I would have go over more tips on grammer because they have obviously forgot. I would also, tell them to use a dictionary if they wasn't sure about the spelling.

Scenario 4

4.1 )  You could use a database.
4.2 )  The advantages would be that the calculations would get done faster.
4.3 )  I would do something a lot like Mr. Borodin did. I would have the students pick out a house and job they want and then have them do the calculations.
