Scenarios 1-4 on pg. 131

Scenario 1

1.1 ) A Spreadsheet would be the best for Mr. Gilbert to use.
1.2 ) The advantage for using a spreadsheet would be that the students would get done much faster because they wouldnt have to keep correcting errors and entering figures.
1.3 ) If I were doing the same project I would have the students work together because they can help each other, get the project done faster, and help each other understand.

Scenario 2

2.1 ) The students have many advantages when they use word processing. It helps students make corrections more efficiently, which motivates them to more and take more interest in there school work.
2.2 ) It is an advantage for the students to post the completed story on the internet because, all the students will be able to go back and see what they completed and it will make them feel good about themselves because they can say they had a part in that story. They will also be able to show there loved one.
2.3 ) If I was Mr. Hern I would have all the students make there own ending to the story so they can see how many was you can go with a story and it will help them with there writing and brainstorming.

Scenario 3

3.1 ) It did not provide the benefit she expected because word processing does not caught every spelling mistake and doesn't really help when it comes to grammer.
3.2 ) I think the students papers weren't as well developed as they usually are because they were focasing so much on the spelling and grammer. Also, all the students were together working in the lab. If they students worked by themselves they would probably get more done.
3.3 ) If she tries this again I would suggest she have her students do more out side of school and, I would have go over more tips on grammer because they have obviously forgot. I would also, tell them to use a dictionary if they wasn't sure about the spelling.

Scenario 4

4.1 )  You could use a database.
4.2 )  The advantages would be that the calculations would get done faster.
4.3 )  I would do something a lot like Mr. Borodin did. I would have the students pick out a house and job they want and then have them do the calculations.

Flip Video!

When I become a elementary school teacher and have my own class room, I will assign a oral presentation some time throughout the year. I think it would be a great idea to you a flip video to record there presentations. The students would know what they need to work on. It would also help the teacher when they were grading.

What is a Wiki?

"A wiki is a database of pages which visitors can edit live."
The building blocks of wikis are the "comments" from visitors.
You can generally edit a page in real time, search the wiki's content, and view updates since your last visit. In a "moderated wiki," wiki owners review comments before addition to the main body of a topic. Additional features can include calendar sharing, live AV conferencing, RSS feeds and more.
http://www.wiki.com/whatiswiki.htm

Wiki's would be very useful in a classroom. Wiki's helping kids be creative expecially, the students that don't talk a lot. Also, it is great for students and teachers to swap ideas with each other about projects. Some pro's about Wiki is that it for the most part gives a good summary of information for the students. Students can post comments about what they learned. Some con's about Wiki is that any one can post information on there and it may not always be true.

Questions on pgs 51, 53, 57, 58.

Pg. 51
 1. Mia's problem is she isan't sure she has enough backround knowledge to develop a more meaningful project.
2. The evidence is that the students are making disparaging comments about people from other nationalities.
3. The relative advantage is that it is hard for students to demean people who look and talk different from you when you've worked with them and gotten to know them.
4. She is so impressed with the method she is going to try it in her own classroom.

Pg. 53
1.I think Mia should have all the students evalute the rubric really good when you assign the report and she should tell them that she is going to take grade according to that rubric.
2.What they learned after the project? Would they ever want to travel there in the future? Would they like to do this same activity with another country?

Pg. 57
1. Mia would have to arrange the Computer Lab.
2.Mia would have to tell her students that they can not give there partners any personal information. They can only give there name and what they like to do. Not there home address or anything there parents would not want them to tell.
3. The students can do handout or other excerices. Or they could read and study for a project.

pg. 58
1.Next time Mia could make them proof read there parper better. She could also go over common mistakes.
2.Mia could have all there students do a survey about the project. She could make sure that a few of the students aren't slacking or something in that sort.
3.I would say it is not a good idea because it take time away from the kids when they get to learn about there culture. Also it doesn't make it there project when someone else finishes it.

What is a blog?

A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent post at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.(http://www.problogger.net/) Blogs would be great to use in elementary class rooms for many reasons such as: having students keep a jounal, helping them with typing, and teachers can have their students do assignments. There are both pros and cons about Blogging. Some pros are, you can express how you feel daily without wrighting it down and, it's easy way to keep track. It helps students to learn how to use a computer and, helps them to learn how to type. It is also a nice technique that it saves automatically on http://www.blogger.com/. Some cons are, students using blogging for a bad causes and, posting things that young children do not need to be reading. Also, some people are not good with computers and , they don't want to be so, blogging wouldn't be a good  hobby for them.
